Blade Steels

Some of our knives have a choice of a stainless or carbon steel blade. Are you unsure which blade steel to choose? Here we will take a closer look between the blade steels.

Stainless Steels

AEB-L

This is a stainless steel with high toughness, good edge retention, and good corrosion resistance. This steel can take a fine edge quite well. If you would like to learn more about AEB-L, the link below by Knife Steel Nerds goes into much more detail.

Carbon Steels

15N20

This is a carbon steel with very high toughness and good edge retention. It requires proper care since it is not a stainless steel and will rust if not kept clean and oiled. It will also develop a patina over time which most people find desirable.

CPM 3V
This is a carbon steel with high toughness and good edge retention. Although a carbon steel, it does offer some stain resistance. This steel should be kept clean and oiled and will develop a patina over time. If you would like to learn more about CPM 3V, the link below by Knife Steel Nerds goes into much more detail.
